How HealthOn Tucson Started

Tucson Medical Center and El Rio Community Health Center, long-time community partners and  leaders in the local health care industry, joined forces to start HealthOn Tucson, a new innovative, integrated health and wellness nonprofit organization. In 2017 we opened our first joint site HealthOn Broadway at 1 W. Broadway Blvd. It is a state-of-the-art primary care medical care site, which is also offering health education and wellness coaching to any community member. Accessible from the streetcar with patient parking in the La Placita Parking Garage, the facility is open Monday through Saturday, including evening hours. HealthOn Broadway is staffed to accommodate up to 7,000 patient visits per year.

TMC had been working with the City of Tucson and Pima County about the needs of their employees and having a downtown health care option. “Our community has been telling us that they want to access health care where they live and where they work,” said Judy Rich, president and CEO, TMC HealthCare. “And it just made sense to partner with our colleagues at El Rio Health to bring this innovative concept to downtown Tucson.”

“We are transforming how primary care should be delivered through patient experience, innovation, efficiency and clinical outcomes,” said Nancy Johnson, CEO, of El Rio. “TMC and El Rio are committed to creating a unique, integrated health care model, which has not yet been seen in Tucson.”

TMC and El Rio are committed to our city, locally governed and operated, and invested in high-quality care, workforce development, and economic sustainability and empowering people to take care of themselves and their families. This new collaboration aims to keep the community healthy by offering an array of preventative health care education and wellness programs in addition to direct care.
